A way of minimizing unnecessary applications is to make sure that you are very specific in your adverts. The more detailed the description of the role, and the more information you put into the list of things you need, the more likely you are to only get relevant applications. 

Research Your Applicants

Finding the right candidate for the job will require you to do some detective work. This means getting in touch with their referee and previous employer and finding out what kind of person they are.

You might also want to think about having a second stage interview where the applicant is interviewed by someone else, or interviewing as part of a panel with some of your colleagues. The more opinions that you can cross-reference before making a decision, the better. 

Varying the interview process also helps. By including a practical element or a paid trial, you will be able to get a better measure of a person's suitability for the job.
