Do it for the Gram: Social Media and getting recognized

Instagram. The social media platform where you can tell your story with photos and showcase your product, clothes, new car, weight loss or if you’re like me, photos of your cat. The popularity of Instagram and social media should not be underestimated. If you’re after likes, followers and Instafame, Instagram has the power to make or break you.
But first, let me take a selfie

When Instagram first started in 2010, it was a simpler time. Will and Kate had just got engaged, Lady Gaga wore that meat dress and Kylie Jenner, the queen of Instagram, was only 12. I know. Now, Instagram has transformed into so much more than a picture-sharing platform. Huge amounts of money can be made from Instagram if done right, with advertisements and endorsements (#ad) making celebrities a nice chunk of cash on the side. People are obsessed with being seen. There’s life, and then there’s Instagram life. Many people use Instagram as a platform to launch themselves into social media fame. You never know, your neighbour down the road could be posting a selfie on Instagram right now to show off her new mascara and it will reach 1,000 likes by the time you’ve finished reading this.

Getting Likes to get noticed
If you’re one of those people who craves likes on Instagram, you’re not alone. It’s human nature to want praise and to be appreciated through all aspects of our lives. Do you still cure that Science teacher who didn’t tell you what a great job you did on the project you spent 3 straight days making? Or do you get frustrated when you spent ages searching for the perfect dress only for your SO not to even notice? We as a race desire to be noticed so it’s nothing to feel guilty about. Instagram can be used for anything you want it to be, so if you have a business and want to showcase your products, you can buy automatic Instagram likes so your posts are filled with likes and getting you noticed. Interaction is key when it comes to social media, so the more you communicate and engage with the Instagram world, the more you’ll be recognized for it.

#Throwback
If you’re a huge fan of the Gram, but you’re not interested in the number of likes you get per post, you’re not alone! Not everyone needs hundreds of likes per post to appreciate Instagram. Remember the time before Instagram, when photos were taken purely for memories, makeup would be applied without showing a camera every. Single. Product. And finally, the word ‘selfie’ would never have made it as word of the year like it did in 2013.  Many people use Instagram as a picture diary; it’s a handy way to look back on what you’ve done and when you did it. So, if you find yourself getting frustrated by the posts that do it for the likes, remember to throw it back to why you’ve got Instagram and not why anyone else has it. As well as being a great place to showcase your business or personal photo diary, it’s a useful way to get ideas for recipes, fashion, makeup and be social.
