Why Is Employee Happiness Important And How Can We Manage It?

As an employer there are so many different things to consider, there are different ways in which to run your business, there are contractors to deal with, and of course you’re all important clients and customers to keep happy. And sometimes we can forget that our employees are the foundations of a business, and the ones that keep it running day in day out. If you are at the point where you are able to step back from your business and let your employees run it for you, then keeping those employees happy is going to be essential for you. Happy employees are productive employees, and here are some ideas on how you can keep them happy.

Environment

When you think about the environment that you are providing for your employees you need to consider not only the physical aspects but the emotional aspects of this as well. If the business you are running is a high energy, and fast-paced, then you are going to need to keep a close eye on whether your staff are overworked. It may not seem obvious at first, but you will certainly hear some of the complaints from your employees if you aren’t getting this right. Hiring a recruitment company such as Silven Recruitment can help you match the right employees to your business from the offset, but it is then up to you to ensure that that environment is correct all the time. Of course, we can’t be perfect, But being careful and showing that you are actually concerned about how your staff are feeling when working for you, is a big step towards success.

Perks

Like any job, there have to be some perks along the way, for example, if you work in the food industry then free meals, or discount can be a very attractive pic to your employees. Sometimes it can be difficult to provide pics along the way, but there are always little things you can do, such as incentives, prizes, or even just ensuring that each of your staff receives a little bonus or gift of some kind at Christmas time. Showing your appreciation for all the hard work that your employees put in, will always help them feel appreciated and work harder for you.

Consistency

People like to have some consistency when it comes to their employment if you say you are going to pay them on a certain date then at the very least it needs to be paid on that date. It goes from there and can lead to all different areas of your business. Such as dealing with grievances, or suggestions quickly and effectively. You don’t always have to give your employees exactly what they ask for, but dealing with any problems, and at least come into some arrangement with them, can help save you running into trouble with your employees overtime. Appreciation and being consistent about it is quite simply one of the best ways to manage your employees and their expectations.

So even though there is an element of trial and error with this, and knowing your employees is the first step, but putting effort into this and knowing how important it is will help you set the right tone.
