It's a scary amount and people don...Absolutely. It's a scary amount and people don't seem to realise how much they really need. If you're young you should be starting to save now for your retirement, regardless of your age. I'm not totally sure what the solution is if you're nearing retirement already. On its own 400k is big wedge, provided you're still earning, but if you're retired and have to make it last for some 20+ years it must be quite sobering!
