I was recently sent a link to a loan company called TrustTwo who've taken a really different approach to marketing their new product. I was genuinely impressed. They've created an interactive site themed around the iconic Superman.





The site allows you to select a Superman movie and then takes you through each of Superman's flights/ journeys during that movie and estimates the likely cost of the trip if you were trying to recreate it today.


The tool is great fun if you're looking to kill a few minutes over a lunchtime. It's a perfect link to send to your comic book loving friends.

But what's all this Superman business in aid of?

TrustTwo is the loan company taking this innovative marketing methodology. They take a slightly different approach to lending. Instead of lending to individuals based purely on their credit score they ask individuals to provide details of a guarantor.

What's a guarantor?

A guarantor is someone with a good credit score who's willing to support your borrowing. They guarantee your loan. If you are unable to pay back your loan then your guarantor is liable to step in and cover your debts.

Why would I take this sort of loan?

The idea is that the lender is mitigating their risk by having a secondary person willing to step in and cover the loan repayments should something go wrong. Some individuals have a poor or non-existing credit score and as such are unable to borrow money. These guarantor loans allow lending to someone in these types of circumstances.


The intention is that the borrower would be less likely to default on their loan if they knew that a close friend or relative was going to have to cover their debts.


Generally, these loans are far cheaper than any sort of payday loan and you can borrow for a far greater period - up to 60 months.


I think we're going to see a lot more of these types of loans in the future. However, in the short term, credit goes to TrustTwo for one of the most innovative marketing campaigns for a loan company for a long time.
